Fatima Fanna Mairami obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Latin American School of Medicine, Cuba and Master of Public Health from the University of Nottingham, UK. Prior to her PhD studies at Monash University, she worked in her home country of Nigeria in various areas that included maternal, child and occupational health.Her PhD in Monash Malaysia explored the experience of being a stroke survivor. Fatima employed an ethnographic approach to investigate the experiences of stroke survivors in rural Peninsular Malaysia. The study highlights the contextual complexity of life with stroke and offers a robust and effective public health strategy for the management of stroke.
