Datin Paduka Prof. Dr. Jamilah Ariffin is an Adjunct Professor in Global Public Health, Jeffrey Cheah of School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Monash University. She has served for more than 30 years as a university professor in “Development Studies” and researcher in “Women and Development” at four local universities in Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Jamilah is the first Malaysian to be selected by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London for the Commonwealth Expert Group to study the impact of Structural Adjustment which issued the important publication titled “Women and Structural Adjustment” in 1990. She has also published 12 books and more than 40 academic research papers, her latest book being “Readings on Women and Development in Malaysia – A Sequel (Tracing Four Decades of Change)” in 2009. As the president of JUITA and a former Advisor to the social council welfare of Johor, Prof. Dr. Jamilah has been responsible for establishing no less than 12 welfare projects within the state of Johor. In appreciation of her contributions towards social welfare in the state of Johor, Prof. Dr. Jamilah was awarded Darjah Paduka Mahkota Johor (DPMJ).
