Professor Anuar Zaini Mat Zain was the former Head of the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine & Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. He had his early postgraduate training in Endocrinology and Metabolic Medicine both in the UK (Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and Australia (Medical Research Centre, Prince Henry Hospital, Melbourne). He is a Senior Fellow and examiner of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh, UK (FRCPEdin) and also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He was the President of the Malaysian Diabetes Association for 10 years from 1990 and also Deputy Chairman of the International Diabetes Federation – Western Pacific Region (1997–2000) during which, he was actively involved in several diabetes care strategic policy developments and multi-centre research projects. His current research interests are related to primary prevention of diabetes and community empowerment, translational studies of diabetic nephropathy and at the same time actively involved in several international multi-centre clinical trials in diabetes. Prof. Anuar has been a member of the SEACO Board since 2011.
